Dad's Night and Rainforest

We have a wonderful night at our school for dads in March.  All the rooms are transformed into Small Town, U.S.A.  Unfortunately, I was unable to be there this past school year, so I don't have many pictures.  My room is the Barber/Beauty Shop and is so much fun!  They can shave their dad, paint their nails, and get a tattoo!  I was so sad I missed it, but Wanda Jean will be back next year!

We had our Jungle/Rainforest Theme the week that we had our Dad's night.  These were some of the animals that we learned about.  We had our Farm theme after, so we compared the difference between wild and tame animals.

We also learned about the animal's habitat, the food they ate, and what type of covering they had.

We did so many fun activities with this theme, and the class LOVED learning about all the different types of animals.  I think we could have spent a month on this!  Hopefully, next year I will have more pictures of our activities that we did!

Fairy Tales

My class loved Fairy Tales this past year!  I think we could have spent a month on them and they would have been happy!  We did a lot of activities, but I'm just going to give a brief overview of what we did.  I'm hoping next year I will be able to be more detailed and put more activities and pictures up.
Sorry my pictures are side ways!  For some reason, they will not rotate.  We made a book of Fairy Tales that we discussed in class.

The girls especially loved Cinderella!

We did story maps for most of our Fairy Tales.  They did a great job!

Whew!  This popcorn word book about did me in!

Our graph for the week was whether or not we would kiss a frog.

We also planted bean stalks to go along with Jack and the Beanstalk but did not have good luck with them this year.  I guess we had a bad bunch of beans...sorry I forgot to take a picture!

We made the Three Little Pig's Houses.  We used raffia for straw, toothpicks for sticks and red construction paper squares for the brick house.

I'm missing a lot of pictures because my camera started to give out on me.  Some of them are so blurry it just isn't worth putting up.  There's always next year! :)

Five Senses

We had our Five Senses theme in February.  At the end of the theme, all of our four and five year classes celebrated by having a Five Senses Day.  They rotated classrooms for each one of the senses and had an activity in each class to go along with it.  It was a really fun day!
The Sound Room- They listened to different sounds and then held their paddle to  match the sound that they heard.  The paddles had pictures on them to match to the corresponding sound.

The Smell Room- They had covered containers filled with different smells (garlic, lemon, cinnamon, etc.) that they smelt, and then colored in the appropriate picture to match the smell.

Taste Room-  They had different items of food to taste (dark chocolate, pretzel, lemon, cookie, etc.) and then matched the picture on the tongue.

They also examined their tongues with mirrors.

Touch- They made Feely Caterpillars.  Each circle represented a different type of touch, smooth- aluminum foil, cotton-soft, sandpaper- rough, border- bumpy, and there was one other, but I can't remember! :)

I'm missing the pictures for the sight room!  They looked at objects through magnifying glasses and was able to look at slides under a microscope.  They also made small kaleidoscopes.  It was a lot of work, but it was a wonderful, learning experience!

I'm Back

I am bad, so B-A-D!  My little blog has been neglected since the end of January!  I have a gazillion pictures and project to post, but just haven't had the time.  I've also had a lot of personal, family things going on that demanded my attention more.  I will try to do some things from this past year and will begin to blog this upcoming year starting today!  Here are a few shot from February.  I'm missing the Valentine's Day party, so maybe tomorrow.  I'm changing my theme this year and can't wait to show it off!  Thanks for bearing with me!
I love reading Guess How Much I love You during the Valentine season.  We made these cards for our parents.  This was actually my sample.
We had the Tooth Fairy visit to share with us about how to take care of our teeth during Dental Health month.
She was fabulous!  She does magic tricks as she's sharing how to take care of our teeth.  The kids love it!
These turned out so cute!  We made our own Tooth Fairies!  They were all different, but they were all so cute!
Here is the girl's Valentine box.
Here is the boy's Valentine box.

That's all for tonight!  My goal is to have all the pictures up tomorrow of our Five Senses Party that was also in February!
