We had our Five Senses theme in February. At the end of the theme, all of our four and five year classes celebrated by having a Five Senses Day. They rotated classrooms for each one of the senses and had an activity in each class to go along with it. It was a really fun day!
The Sound Room- They listened to different sounds and then held their paddle to match the sound that they heard. The paddles had pictures on them to match to the corresponding sound. |
The Smell Room- They had covered containers filled with different smells (garlic, lemon, cinnamon, etc.) that they smelt, and then colored in the appropriate picture to match the smell. |
Taste Room- They had different items of food to taste (dark chocolate, pretzel, lemon, cookie, etc.) and then matched the picture on the tongue. |
They also examined their tongues with mirrors. |
Touch- They made Feely Caterpillars. Each circle represented a different type of touch, smooth- aluminum foil, cotton-soft, sandpaper- rough, border- bumpy, and there was one other, but I can't remember! :) |
I'm missing the pictures for the sight room! They looked at objects through magnifying glasses and was able to look at slides under a microscope. They also made small kaleidoscopes. It was a lot of work, but it was a wonderful, learning experience!
